Having Rhoda, who is my sister and also a midwife, made the decision
to have a home birth simple for me but not so simple for my husband.
He had so many questions, concerns, and fears of "what if something
goes wrong?" I asked him if he would at least take the childbirth
classesjust so we would feel more educated about the whole experience.
Wow, we were so amazed as we learned in depth about the whole birth
experience.
When we walked away from the weekend classes we were convinced
that home birth was for us. I was empowered as a woman by the classes.
I was reminded that God designed childbirth and that he had designed
me to be able to give birth naturally to a healthy baby. How empowering
it was to know that I was made to do this! The classes challenged
our ideas and perceptions of childbirth and taught us to be educated
and not just trust any doctor's advice.
The care we received from Rhoda was wonderful. She was always eager
to explain things and never once did we feel stupid for asking even
the simplest questions. Not only was Rhoda professional, but also
personal. She was always concerned about how we were doing as new
parents and any problems we had at the time. During the birth of
our baby, I was always reassured by Rhoda that, I could do this
and that I was made for this. After two full days and nights of
contractions and still no baby I had my doubts. But I clung to the
fact that God had made me and designed me and this was all his idea
to begin with. I could do it!
Although things moved slowly for me, they couldn’t have been
more picture perfect. I gave birth to a beautiful little girl, Addison
Rae, 7 lb. 11 oz.
What a wonderful blessing Rhoda has been to our family. We thank
God for leading us to her and her care. Childbirth has been such
a beautiful and personal experience for us and we are so thankful
for Rhoda’s care for us and little Addi.
